Professor of Musculoskeletal Instrumentation and Telemetry
University College London, United Kingdom
Stephen Taylor is Professor in Musculoskeletal Instrumentation and Telemetry at the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science (IOMS), UCL. He has developed and implanted in man femoral and shoulder instrumented orthopaedic implants, for wireless measurement of forces during activity, and conducted clinical trials to study implant loosening and isometric implant forces. He designed a novel magnetic drive for the UCL extendible prosthesis for paediatric prosthetic limb lengthening, used worldwide. He teaches on biomechanics and instrumentation to several MSc student cohorts. His current research interests are: in vivo telemetry of measured forces from within spinal rods, shoulder and elbow joints and tendon forces; musculoskeletal model validation; wheelchair instrumentation for accessibility and injury prevention.
