Biography
Dr. Torres’ commitment is to advance the understanding and treatment of soft tissue sarcoma, a rare cancer, through translational research. She is a graduate of The University of Puerto Rico, and The Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva University, in New York. Dr. Torres completed her General Surgery Residency at Robert Wood Johnson University. She then received further postgraduate training as a clinical fellow in Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Torres is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology and Department of Genomic Medicine at MD Anderson Cancer Center. She serves as the Co-Director of the Division of Surgery Basic/Translational Research. She is the Founder of Sniffing for The Cure and Comparative Oncology Solutions. She created a Catalyst Program at SARC, where developmental projects are supported by funding and intensive coaching. The Catalyst Program draws upon her MBA background, providing an incubator-like approach in which a steering committee works with the funded investigators, ensuring effective problem-solving and deliverables.

Dr. Torres’ current research is focused on the examination of the molecular mechanisms deregulations that promote the pathogenesis of sarcomas with the intent to develop targeted therapeutic approaches for the treatment of this disease.
