I am a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology and Co-director of the Connective Tissue Oncology Clinical Research Team in the Rogel Cancer Center. I received a Doctorate of Medicine and Doctorate of Philosophy in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Oregon Heath and Sciences University. I completed residency in Internal Medicine at Duke University and Fellowship in Medical Oncology at University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. I was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Washington in 2001 and joined the University of Michigan in 2004.
My medical practice is focused on management of patients with connective tissue tumors including sarcomas. I am a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Soft Tissue Sarcoma Treatment Guidelines Committee, and I serve as Principal Investigator of the NCI Leiomyosarcoma SPORE. I have been Medical Director of the Rogel Cancer Center Oncology-Clinical Trials Support Unit since 2010.
I have been Principal Investigator of NCTN, ETCTN and ASCO supported clinical trials and have over 20 years of experience in oversight and conduct of translational and therapeutic trials in patients with bone and soft tissue sarcomas. I was awarded an ASCO Advanced Clinical Research Award in Sarcoma in 2008, the University of Michigan Division of Hematology/Oncology Excellence in Research Award in 2010, and an NIH Cancer Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award in 2012.
