Dr. Manikandan Murugesan, PhD, is a postdoctoral researcher at the esteemed Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Science from Bharathidasan University in Tamil Nadu, India. During the doctoral studies, he demonstrated a commitment to understanding of cancer biology, particularly in the context of breast cancer metastasis and chemoresistance. He employed a multifaceted approach, combining cellular and genomic techniques, to delve deep into the intricate mechanisms governing these critical aspects of cancer progression.
In the year 2022, he joined the Dr. Sicklick group as a postdoctoral researcher. The main focus of current research is on determining the molecular and functional properties of succinate dehydrogenase-deficient gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), with the hope of identifying new therapeutic targets and approaches for the treatment of this rare and challenging form of cancer.
