Aiko Maejima is a medical oncologist in the Department of Medical Oncology and Urology at the National Cancer Center Hospital in Tokyo, Japan.
After studying sociology at the University of Tokyo and researching the history of Japanese healthcare policy in the master's degree program, she decided to become a doctor herself and re-enrolled in medical school.
She initially started her career as a resident of medical oncology at NCCH, and then completed a training in urology, acquiring knowledge and experience not only in chemotherapy, but also in surgery.
She is an expert in the treatment of advanced soft tissue sarcomas as well as urologic malignancies such as prostate cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and urothelial carcinoma. In recent years, she has been particularly dedicated to clinical research on retroperitoneal sarcomas, aiming to develop effective treatments for retroperitoneal liposarcoma and leiomyosarcoma, the last frontier.
