Winan J. van Houdt is a surgical oncologist in the Netherlands Cancer Institute/Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His practice focuses on Soft Tissue Sarcoma at all anatomical locations, GISTs and Desmoid Tumors, as well as Melanoma and non-Melanoma skin cancer. Currently, he is the chair of the sarcoma unit in the NKI, and program coordinator of the Rare Cancer Program in his institution. His research focus is on neo-adjuvant studies, translational research and quality of life. He was program chair of the CTOS annual meeting in 2021, and is currently the chair-elect of the EORTC soft tissue and bone sarcoma group (STBSG). He is co-PI of the STRASS2 and STREXIT2 study.
He did his surgical residency at the University Medical Center Utrecht, the Netherlands, and did his Surgical Oncology Fellowship with a focus on sarcoma in The Netherlands Cancer Institute, and partly in Mount Sinai in Toronto, Intituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, Italy, and a research fellowship in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He then worked in the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, UK, in the sarcoma/melanoma unit as a locum consultant before he moved to his current position in NKI Amsterdam in 2017.
