Matt van de Rijn, MD, PhD, is a surgical pathologist specializing in the diagnosis of soft tissue and bone sarcomas. Dr. Matt van de Rijn’s research focuses on gene expression profiling of human soft tissue tumors (sarcomas) using next generation sequencing methods adapted to paraffin embedded formalin fixed tissue samples. Within the sarcoma field, Dr. van de Rijn’s research interests focus mainly on leiomyosarcomas, gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) and desmoid tumors to identify novel diagnostic and prognostic markers for these diseases. He works with tissue microarrays to validate novel biomarkers on large numbers of specimens. In addition, his laboratory pursues several therapeutic targets that hopefully will lead to novel treatment options.
