Medical Student (MS3)
University of Ottawa, Canada
Tristan is a third-year medical student at the University of Ottawa with a strong academic focus on oncology. His interest in this field developed during his undergraduate studies in microbiology and immunology, where he gained knowledge about cancer biology and immunological therapies for cancer treatment. Now, as a medical student, Tristan is keen on pursuing research and a career in surgical oncology.
His journey into oncology research commenced with his involvement in the CanSaRCC Student Mentorship Program under the mentorship of Dr. Carolyn Nessim , where he contributed to the development of a Canadian Sarcoma database for multi-center interdisciplinary research. During this period, Tristan also participated in an oncology buddy program at the local children's hospital (CHEO), establishing a deep connection with a patient and their family during the two-year course of treatment. This experience profoundly influenced him, deepening his understanding of the challenges patients and their families encounter and motivating him to continue his educational and professional journey in the field.
During this time, Tristan has become involved in two projects with TARPSWG, including his current poster presentation on the Evaluation and Outcomes of Mesenteric and Intra-Abdominal Desmoids. Beyond his academic pursuits, Tristan enjoys downhill skiing during the winter and mountain biking in the summer, making the most of Canada's year-round weather.
