Dr. Sophie Mottard completed her medical degree at Montreal University from 1996-2008. She began her university studies by completing a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences. She then completed her residency in orthopedic surgery within the Montreal university hospital network (POES Program).
During her residency in orthopedics, Dr. Mottard participated in several fundamental and clinical research projects in collaboration with the arthroplasty team at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital. These projects have led to several presentations at national and international level as well as several publications.
During her training, Dr. Mottard won numerous awards, both for her research projects and for her human qualities. For this reason, the University of Montreal awarded her the Julie Laurin prize in 2006.
At the end of her residency in 2008, she received the prestigious Daniel-Tassé prize, awarded by the University of Montreal to the finishing resident in surgery, all specialties combined, by the professorial ensemble of the Department of Surgery for her qualities as clinician and professor.
Following her specialist training in orthopedic surgery (FRSC), Dr. Mottard added a period of subspecialization in musculoskeletal oncology at the Royal Orthpaedic Hospital (ROH) Birmingham,UK.
She therefore brings European expertise within the Orthopedic Oncology team in Montreal.
Since her return, she has taken charge of musculoskeletal tumors patients in collaboration with Dr. Marc Isler, Dr George Basile and Dr Patrick Wang. The multidisciplinary approach for optimal sarcoma patient management is the pillar of her clinical approach.
For the last 15 years, she has worked extensively to improve referral pathways in the province of Quebec, Canada. She is one of the founder and main instigator of the Quebec Sarcoma Network.
She recently produced a documentary series on sarcoma patients to increase awareness and gather fund for research

Dr Mottard also teaches anatomy at Montreal University Medical School and Rehabilitation Faculty.
