Maurilio Sampaolesi research group has extensive experience in the field of stem cells and their use for the treatment of skeletal muscle diseases. The group has been working in the past on adult stem cells for skeletal and cardiac muscle regeneration. Recently, we explored cell reprogramming strategies to generate cardiac and skeletal muscle progenitors to model muscle diseases and improve stem cell-based therapeutic approaches. Basic studies on epigenetics (methylation and histone code), miRNA signatures and single cell identity (scRNAseq/scATAC-seq 10x Genomics) towards myogenic lineages are also main research tasks. Thus, extracellular vesicle-mediated protein and miRNA cargo networking to interfere the muscle phenotypes and 3D cell modelling for muscular dystrophies are the most recent scientific adventures that we are performing in a diverse and multidisciplinary environment for the future scientific career path.
