R. Lor Randall, MD, FACS, an internationally recognized sarcoma surgeon, educator & researcher, is a Professor of Orthopaedics & the David Linn Endowed Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, Davis in Sacramento.
Dr. Randall received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training at the University of California, San Francisco followed by a musculoskeletal oncology fellowship at the University of Washington, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
Before joining UC Davis, Dr. Randall was a professor & the L.B. & Olive S. Young Presidential Endowed Chair for Cancer Research at the University of Utah & served as the Director of Sarcoma Services at the Huntsman Cancer Institute & Primary Children’s Medical Center. He also developed & directed the Huntsman – Intermountain Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Care Program.
Dr. Randall’s clinical practice & research focus on musculoskeletal surgical oncology & on building-leading edge trans-disciplinary teams to combat rare cancers of connective tissue in children & adults. His translational research efforts have been recognized internationally, including his work as chief of the Sarcoma Array Research Consortium (SARC) lab, a laboratory investigating the molecular genetic mechanisms that give rise to sarcomas; his help in development a genetically engineered mouse model at the University of Utah (in cooperation with Nobel Prize co-winner Mario Capecchi); & his technical advancements in limb salvage surgery.
Dr. Randall has authored 300+ peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, & abstracts in the field of sarcoma surgery & biology. He has received numerous national & international awards. He is co-director of the University of California, Davis MUSCLE NIH T32 training grant & chair of the Internal Advisory Committee for the University of California, Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center.
