Dr. Thorpe is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgical oncologist with expertise in bone and soft tissue sarcomas in both adult and pediatric patients. He obtained his medical degree at Vanderbilt University. He completed his orthopaedic residency training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Thorpe completed fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He specializes in limb sparing resections and reconstructions for bone and soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities and trunk. Dr. Thorpe has particular interest in pediatric limb salvage procedures and surgical resections for malignant sarcoma of the pelvis.
Dr. Thorpe's research focuses on clinical and translational studies in the treatment of sarcoma. He is currently working on studies evaluating surgical margins and improving the quality of soft tissue sarcoma resections with fluorescence aided surgery. Additionally, he partners with a bioengineering lab working with 3D models for the study of tumor formation and the development of metastasis in osteosarcoma.
Dr. Thorpe has serves as a panel member for NCCN Bone Cancer Guideline and has been a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology Sarcoma Disease Site Work Group and a member of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society Evidence Based Medicine Committee.
