Currently, Dr. Kneisl is the Marie-Claire Marroum MD Distinguished Chair Of Orthopaedic Oncology, of the Levine Cancer Institute , and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Executive Vice Chairman of the Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute in Charlotte, NC. He currently serves as the Chief Surgical Officer of Atrium Health , Greater Charlotte Region and has recently assumed the role of Chief Surgical Officer for Enterprise Perioperative Services. Dr. Kneisl has previously served as Cancer Center Director and Chief of Orthopaedics at Carolinas Medical Center.
Dr Kneisl has published in all the domains of orthopaedic surgery (trauma, spine, tumor, pediatrics, adult reconstruction, upper extremity, foot and ankle, sports medicine ) and has served as a reviewer/ editor for multiple orthopaedic,oncologic,and surgical journals. He has received over $4.5 M extramural grant funding. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, Society for Surgical Oncology, Connective Tissue Oncology Society, and the International Society for Limb Salvage.
A US Navy veteran, Dr Kneisl received combined BS and MD degrees from Northwestern University in the Honors Program in Medical Education . Following service in the US Navy , he completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Northwestern University and orthopaedic oncology fellowship at University of Chicago
