Dr. Sheila Conway recently joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wake Forest School of Medicine as Professor and Vice Chair of Faculty Development and Section Chief for the Orthopaedic Oncology division. Dr Conway completed her MD at Temple University, orthopaedic surgery residency at Monmouth Medical Center, and oncology fellowship at the Univeristy of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM). She has 15 years of clinical experience as an orthopaedic oncologist at UMMSOM and 6 years experience as Chief of the Orthopaedic Oncology Division. She has extensive involvement in mentorship and medical education and served most recently as Vice Chair of Education at UMMSOM. Additionally, she has 13 years of experience as an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program Director and 6 years as Musculoskeletal Oncology Fellowship Director. During her 15 years of service at UMMSOM she focused her educational, leadership and research efforts on increasing diversity in training programs, the department, and the overall profession of orthopaedic surgery. She was the 2022 recipient of the Department of Orthopaedic’s Rosa Award, 2016 Orthopaedic Teacher of the Year, and 2017 recipient of the “You Choose” SEEDS Leadership Award for Cultural Advancement. She served on UMMSOM Racial Justice Task Force, C-change Diversity Action Team, and Committee for Student Mistreatment. Dr. Conway was inducted as a Fellow of American Orthopaedic Association in 2015 and 2019 graduate of AOA/APEX Leadership Certificate program. Shecompleted Harvard School of Public Health’s “Leadership Development for Physicians in Academic Centers”. She has been active in Florida Orthopaedic Society (FOS) – hosting the 2020 FOS Annual Academic Meeting and a co-founder and the 2020 Vice Chair of Florida Orthopaedic Society’s Diversity Subcommittee. Dr Conways is an inductee of the American Health Council and she was recognized in 2023 as one of Florida’s Top Docs.
