Dr. Heske is a physician scientist in the Pediatric Oncology Branch at the National Cancer Institute. Her research program incorporates both translational laboratory and clinical research with a focus on the development of novel therapeutic agents for pediatric-type sarcomas, including Ewing sarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma. The goal of her research is to identify and evaluate new therapeutic targets for these cancers by elucidating the mechanisms behind therapeutic resistance and developing strategies to overcome it. Her laboratory focus is on targeting tumor metabolism and DNA damage repair; her clinical focus is on the conduct of novel early phase studies for children, adolescents, and young adults with sarcoma.
