Professor Stefan Bielack is a pediatric hemato-oncologist and former head of the Department of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology, Immunology at Stuttgart Cancer Center (until 2021). His main interests are bone sarcomas, particularly osteosarcoma. He was chairman of the Cooperative Osteosarcoma Study Group, COSS, for over 25 years, was ECT project leader of the European and American Osteosarcoma Study, EURAMOS1, leader of the bone tumor work package of the European Network for Cancer Research in Children and Adolescents, ENCCA, and osteosarcoma representative in the European Research Network PaedCan. He has served as President of the European Musculo-Skeletal Oncology Society, EMSOS, treasurer of SIOPE, the European Society of Pediatric Oncology, as well as board member of multiple other societies. Current and past Editorial Board memberships include Cancer Treatment Reviews, Journal of Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology, and Journal of Clinical Oncology. He was member of the ESMO Sarcoma Faculty and Co-Chair of the ESMO-SIOPE Joint Working Group on Cancer in Adolescents and Young Adults. In 2016, he was awarded the German Cancer Prize (Deutscher Krebspreis) for his clinical research on bone sarcoma. His publication on prognostic factors in osteosarcoma ranks among the 40 most often cited papers published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
