Instructor of Pediatrics
Seattle Children's Research Institute
I am an Instructor of Pediatrics at Seattle Children’s Hospital/University of Washington, with a clinical focus in pediatric solid tumors. I am continuing my postdoctoral laboratory research fellowship, which I started during my pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship, under the mentorship of Dr. Elizabeth Lawlor at the Seattle Children’s Research Institute. My research focuses on preclinical testing of epigenetic therapeutics for high-risk Ewing sarcoma patients. More specifically I am investigating bromodomain and extraterminal domain (BET) inhibitors. BET inhibitors competitively inhibit the binding of BET proteins, which normally function as epigenetic readers at superenhancers, enhancers, and promoters, effectively blocking the transcription of genes critical for oncogeneis. Early preclinical of BET inhibitors in Ewing sarcoma demonstrated preclinical activity as well as reversal of the EWS::FLI1 transcriptional signature. My current research focuses on identifying promising pre-clinical therapeutic agents to combine with BET inhibitors in Ewing sarcoma, and elucidate mechanisms of resistance. My ultimate career goals are to become an independently funded early phase clinical investigator focused on improving outcomes for high-risk pediatric sarcoma patients.
