Full Professor
Department of Chemistry "Giacomo Ciamician", University of Bologna, 40126 Bologna, Italy, Italy
Maria Letizia Focarete received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Bologna in 2000. She is currently Full Professor of Science and Technology of Polymeric Materials at the University of Bologna, where she leads the Polymer Science and Biomaterials research group. She is Deputy Director of the Chemistry Department of the University of Bologna. She is a member of the Health Sciences and Technologies - Interdepartmental Center for Industrial Research at the University of Bologna. In 2006 she founded the interdisciplinary Research Group on Electrospinning, whose activities are mostly focused on extending current basic knowledge for better control and optimization of the electrospinning process and implementing and tailoring the electrospinning apparatus for fabricating innovative nanofiber assemblies. The academic research interests concern the development of polymers for biomedical applications, hydrogels for 3D-bioprinting, innovative bioinspired scaffolds for tissue engineering and drug delivery, stimuli-responsive and functional polymeric materials for applications in various fields, including the environmental and energy sectors, through the study of structure-property correlation and the use of innovative manufacturing technologies. She authored around 150 papers in international, peer-reviewed scientific journals and 3 book chapters. She is the inventor of 8 patents or patent applications. H-index = 36 (Scopus).
