Dr. Chelsey Burke, MD is a clinical instructor and young investigator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. After graduating from the the University of Iowa with a B.S. in biology, Dr. Burke obtained her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine where she graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the Iota Alpha Epsilon international medical honors society. Following pediatric residency at Advocate Children’s Hospital, where she served as pediatric chief resident, she joined the combined Memorial Sloan Kettering and New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell pediatric hematology and oncology fellowship program. Under the mentorship of Dr. Filemon Dela Cruz, Dr. Burke joined the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Kung where her research focuses pediatric cancer modeling and preclinical drug development. Dr. Burke has conducted research on the evaluation and validation of selinexor, a selective inhibitor of the nuclear export protein exportin-1, in pediatric renal tumors. This work has provided the preclinical rationale for an investigator-initiated clinical trial of selinexor in children with relapsed Wilms tumor and other solid tumors. Additionally, Dr. Burke is involved in the preclinical evaluation of a novel polymeric nanoparticle and a HER2-targeting antibody-drug conjugate in pediatric solid tumor models.
