Research Scientist
MD Anderson Cancer Center
Dr. Elvis Duran obtained his Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering from Texas A&M University (TAMU), College Station, TX, USA. He also holds a B.Sc. degree in mechatronics engineering from Universidad Anahuac Mayab, Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. From 2012-2015, he worked as a Software Engineer in Plenumsoft Merida, where he developed machine learning algorithms for the classification of airborne hyperspectral images. From 2015-2020 he conducted his Ph.D. studies in TAMU, where he implemented computational tools for oral cancer diagnosis based on fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) data processing. After completion of his doctoral studies, he began working as a postdoctoral researcher in biomedical engineering at TAMU, where he further developed computational algorithms for FLIM data analysis and machine learning pipelines. In 2022, he began working as a Research Scientist at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, USA, and his current research efforts focus on machine learning based diagnosis of musculoskeletal cancers, and development of computational tools for functional magnetic resonance imaging data processing. His research interests include medical imaging, statistical analysis, machine learning, and deep learning.
