Psychologist
Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Chile
My name is Maria Florencia Lira Aránguiz, I am 26 years old and I am a psychologist. I studied at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile and I have a master degree in Psycho-Oncology and Palliative Care at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. For the last three years I have been dedicated to the support of cancer patients and their families, promoting a better adaptation to the disease and its treatments. I am currently part of the Child and Adolescent Liaison Psychiatry Unit at the Red Salud UC Christus Hospital in Chile. I am the first psychologist to be part of this unit and my objective is to attend to the psychological, social and spiritual needs of patients with different organic diseases.
I am a faithful believer in the union between body and mind, and that is why I am interested in investigating mental health problems associated with disease processes. The more research is done on this topic, the more the need for mental health professionals in all hospital facilities will be exposed. Advances in science and technology have allowed diseases that were once fatal to become less so, chronifying them and generating new challenges. This is why it is increasingly necessary for patients and their families to have psychological support to adapt to treatments and associated difficulties, with the aim of a better quality of life.
