Dr. John Mullen is a graduate of the University of California, Davis School of Medicine and completed his residency training in general surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He then completed a two-year fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Mullen is a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and serves as the Program Director of the General Surgery Residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital and is Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs for the Department of Surgery at MGH. Dr. Mullen’s clinical focus is the surgical treatment of gastric cancer and soft tissue sarcoma. His academic focus is surgical education and clinical and translational cancer research. Dr. Mullen serves in the leadership of several national surgical societies, including the Society of Surgical Oncology and the Halsted Society. His research has been funded by the NIH and the V Foundation. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed articles as well as 40 reviews, book chapters, and editorials, and he serves on the editorial boards of four of the leading journals in his specialty.
