senior biostatistician
Univesity of Minnesota
Rich Evans is a senior biostatistician in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University of Minnesota, USA. In that capacity, he designs and analyses studies in medicine, surgery, and population health. He also works on genetics prediction models, retrospective studies, and orthopedic biomechanical studies.
His research includes the Bayesian analysis of diagnostic tests in the absence of a gold standard, which is veterinary work involving multiple types of diagnostics tests on different populations. He also has published extensively in evidence-based medicine. Beyond the overtly statistical work, he is interested in three aspects of medical writing: how researchers sometimes misinterpret the statistical report of their data analysis, using AI chatbots to aid writing, and methods for writing clear and concise study reports.
Prior to his role at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Evans was on the faculty of Iowa State University. He is a past president of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society, the only non-veterinarian to hold that position. He is also the founding editor of Veterinary Evidence, published by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
