Joel Mayerson, MD is a professor of orthopaedic surgery and an orthopaedic oncologist at the James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University School of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. His undergraduate education was completed at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his orthopaedic surgical residency training at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio and a fellowship in adult and pediatric orthopaedic oncology at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington with Dr. Ernest “Chappie” Conrad. Over the past 23 years, Dr. Mayerson has held many institutional and national orthopaedic leadership roles. At The James he is currently the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of Surgical Services for the cancer program at Ohio State University. In addition, he serves as Medical Director of Sarcoma Services at The James. He is Past-President of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society in North America and Past President of the Ohio Orthopaedic Society. He is currently a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Board of Directors and Chair-elect of the AAOS Board of Councilors. He has authored over 135 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and made over 125 international, national, and regional presentations.
