Lore Lapeire is a medical oncologist at Ghent University Hospital where she is responsible for the treatment of patients with bone and soft tissue tumours. She has a specific interest in translational science and for her PhD, she investigated the influence of adipose tissue secreted factors on breast cancer progression. She now uses this knowledge to investigate the role of extracellular vesicles in the development and progression of metastases in sarcoma patients.
Given her expertise in sarcomas, which often occurs at young age, she developed a particular interest in the treatment and support of adolescents and young adults (AYA's) with cancer. She recently started the research group ARCH (AYA Research Center and Hub) at Ghent University where multidisciplinary clinical research about AYA-related topics will be conducted.
