John Hopkins University
Kai Pollard is currently a Laboratory Manager at the Johns Hopkins University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC in 2004. Her past work includes running a Hematologic Malignancies Biospecimen repository and managing a Core Lab that supported clinical research at the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Cancer Center. Currently she works to manage a research lab that focuses on small molecule therapeutics for solid tumors harboring oncogenic activation of RAS and RAS effector pathways. She also runs the Johns Hopkins NF1 Biobank which has served as an important resource to many members of the NF1 research community. Her past experience in various self-guided portions of research projects has served to help her understand how to independently review a study protocol, determine laboratory feasibility, and how to carry out necessary laboratory procedures for handling specimens and generating research data. Also, she has 15 years of experience in leadership and training in personnel supervision, laboratory management, and quality assurance of lab practices and stored specimens. This experience has provided Ms. Pollard an extensive understanding of specimen use for research and thus the ability to understand the best preservation methods for fresh human tissue specimens for a wide range of future uses.
