Dr Alexia F. Bertuzzi earned his medical degree in 1994 at the Milan University (Italy).
Her post-graduate education continued with a Medical Oncology degree, achieved in 1998. She completed the post-graduate training at the San Raffaele Institute and at the National Cancer Institute in Milan, as clinical and research fellow. From 1998 until 2012 she worked in Humanitas Cancer Center, Humanitas Research Hospital as Senior Clinical and Research Physician. From January 2013 until January 2017 she worked in Dublin (Ireland) as Medical Oncologist Consultant. Starting from February 2017 she has become the Head of Sarcoma and Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Oncology at Humanitas Clinical and Research Hospital.
She has been a member of several Scientific Societies including Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM), Italian Sarcoma Group (ISG) and Irish Sarcoma Group. She was also involved in the ESMO (European Society Medical Oncology) guidelines for Soft Tissue Sarcoma/Bone Sarcoma and GIST
She has a long-standing interest in the field of clinical and translational cancer research. From 2006 she focused her scientific and clinical interest on patients with soft tissue and bone sarcoma. As Medical Oncologist Consultant she was involved in the daily treatment of GI and GU cancer, focusing on pancreatic cancer and NETs. She established in the last 5 years an AYA (Adolescent and Young Adult) Oncological Service dedicated to patients between 16 and 39 years of age, who have unique clinical and psychosocial needs. This has been a very rewarding project, requiring organization and coordination skills in project-managing something entirely new and innovative.
She is author of several papers published in peer-reviewed journals on the development of new drugs and new strategies in the management of sarcoma. She is speaker, chair, discussant of the organizing and scientific committee at national and international congresses and conferences.
